Regrouping and borrowing

I have noticed that due to some reasons our students need lots of help with 2-3 digits subtraction and addition borrowing and regrouping. Please help your child to strengthen the second grade skills. Thank you so much.

It does not matter what way they do, they need to know the concept and able to show the work on the math worksheet. That is all that matters.

common questions for the first week

The homework details and package will go home in September.

Before you got the homework package:
Also, how much time per day are they to do Mandarin Matrix and how much time for Extramath per day?

I would do 15-20 ms per day or 3 times a week first, until more homework details go home.

What is the due date for the mandarin matrix online books?

There is no due date for Chinese website. I would like them to read the books on their own pace.If she/he does not know how to do some parts, just skip the part or simply play with it. It should not be too much different with 2nd grade.

"She does not know how to ask some questions in Chinese."

If she/he does not know How to say it in English, act it out, point it out, or draw it out. This group is using too much English and it is not good for them. If she really need to find out her questions, she can come talk to me at recess.

Important Message : Chinese Only

Dear Parents,
1.Please tell your child, absolutely "Chinese ONLY" in the Chinese classroom. This is critical for their learning and it is the rule for all 3rd grade Chinese immersion classrooms.    If she/ he has a hard time to talk to the teacher: act it out, point it out, write a note to the teacher, wait till recess.
2. Please do not come talk to the Chinese teacher in English in the Chinese classroom. If you need to talk to the Chinese teacher: write and email, pick a time after school, or write a note.
3. I do not talk English in front of my students, if I do not answer you. Please know I am not trying to ignore you.

Please help us to teach your child the important rule in the Chinese immersion classroom.
Thank you~

Sincerely,

3rd grade Chinese Teacher Lin-Smith
